AI tools have made it easier than ever to get things done — summarise a document, edit a photo, translate a contract. But when you upload a file to one of these services, you're not just sharing what you can see. The invisible metadata embedded in that file goes too.

What Metadata Gets Sent to AI Tools

When you drag a photo or document into ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or any other AI assistant, the file you're uploading contains more than its visible content.

Photos and images typically carry EXIF data:
